How do YOU handle the miracle called LIFE?...

They said he died.

One morning in 1888, Alfred Nobel, inventor of dynamite,

the man who had spent his life amassing a fortune from the manufacture and sale of weapons of destruction, awoke to read his own obituary. Of course, it was a mistake. Alfred's brother had died, and the reporter inadvertently wrote Alfred's obituary.

For the first time, Alfred Nobel saw himself as the world saw him –"the dynamite king," the great industrialist who had made an immense fortune from explosives. This, as far as the general public was concerned, was the entire purpose of his life. None of his true intentions surfaced.

Nothing was said about his work to break down the barriers that separated persons and ideas. He was, quite simply, a merchant of death, and for that alone would he be remembered. Alfred read the obituary with horror. He felt that the world must know the true meaning and purpose of his life. He resolved to do this through his last will and testament. The final disposition of his fortune would show the world his life's ideals. And at that time came into being yearly prizes for chemistry, physics, medicine, literature – and the famous Nobel Peace Prize.

If you were to read your own obituary today, what would it say? Do others know what you stand for, what you believe in and what truly matters to you? Dr. Philip Humbert asks, "What remarkable, extraordinary and amazing things will you do with this wild and wonderful miracle, your one and only life?" I believe that the question should also be asked this way:"What will you do with this wild and wonderful miracle, your one and only DAY?"

For it's increasingly clear to me that the decisions I make every day, even little decisions, will decide how my life will eventually turn out. Hopefully, I won't wake up to read my own obituary. But I have already begun to write it – day by day, moment by moment. And if I live a life that matters today, then my obituary will already be written in the hearts of those who know me.

I had planted a bright orange hibiscus some time ago. It thrived under my loving care and kept presenting me with lots of beautiful blooms.. It gave me a lot of joy.. Yesterday I was pained to see its branches all strewn around and broken.. Perhaps it was uprooted.. I ought to have gone and seen if I could maybe replant it, but I had not the heart to even look at it... It hurt... I know it is only a plant. I know I can always plant some more... yet it hurt..

And it set me thinking... aren't we like that plant? God plants us so lovingly, cares for us so tenderly, prunes us, nourishes us, protects us, showers us with his blessings and mercy.. Yet some marauder comes and tries to destroy us.. leaves us broken and bleeding.. and we think.. Why God? Why me? What did I do? Why did you let this happen to me? We hurt so much that it never occurs to us that our suffering is either because of our own mistakes or because of Evil. It is so easy to let go and remain broken.. .. Yet, it is upto us.. to learn the lesson being taught.. to hold on hard and fast with all our might, to believe, to have faith, to grab the steadying ground with our roots and grow back even grow stronger....

We often give up without making an effort, we think, how can my efforts help the suffering and pain in the world? True, a single star cannot dispel darkness for everyone.. but if it gives light to even one soul.. its purpose is fulfilled.... Let us take our light from Our Sun.. Our Father.. and shine on the best we can.. We may never even know the lives we touch and bless..

A Tom-ly tale...

Tom and Jerry.. one of my favorite cartoon's (dun ask about the others.... the list is way too long :P) OK... So, I love Tom. Tom the rogue.. Tom the poor sweetheart, who, for all his bravado and his crafty ways, is no match for the wily wicked Jerry..... Yes, I do love Tom!

The vicinity around my home used to be the undisputed domain of another Tom.. who looked more like Garfield (oh yeah.. I love that sweetheart too!!) .. However, this particular Tom was Different. He was fat, yes, He was forever scarred and scratched (evidence of his Tom-ly triumph over other poachers who dared to dispute his Monarchy) but he was also always very filthy! Yes, filthy!.. Cats are supposed to be clean, good, stately beings.. but not our Tom.. no way.. He was after all Different.. and let me tell you how Different....

My particular Tom used to be extremely fond of my older daughter and me.. He would visit us almost daily, miaowing outside our door to announce his arrival, and the moment we would step out of the door.. he would arrive like a streak of lightening from no one knew where (for when one seeked Tom, he was never to be found, unless he wished to be found) and he would sit there.. bestowing us with a regal haughty look, while I would give him a sound scolding as to his filthy state. He would listen patiently, and when we moved off.. he stalked off too. My daughter used to put out a saucer of milk for Tom, which he would deign to partake of, if only out of respect of our sentiments, he being used to exotic delicacies I am sure! .. so one day.. Tom disappeared! His regular visits stopped. We started missing him. We got worried. We kept anxiously looking out for him thinking morbid thoughts!

Late one evening just as suddenly he re-appeared miaowing outside our door, till my daughter opened it. He sat and listened quietly to the long lecture my daughter and me subjected him to. Yes, he did. dear reader.. do not laugh... believe.. He did. We asked him where had he disappeared and why was he not to be seen? However, Tom being Tom.. just listened in silence.. or so we thought.

The very next morning..... there was a lot of meowing outside our door.. so we thought that poor Tom must have taken our lecture to heart and come to bestow us with a rare early morning visit.. we opened the door.. and there outside.. was Tom, standing like a big Regal Monarch.. and.. beside him... a cute little cat!!!!!!!! We almost fainted before presenting a big bowl of milk to our visitors... . Tom proceeded to have a little and meowed something to his sweetheart.. who then polished off the bowl.. ( all the while we were oohing and aaahing and remarking on Tom and his girl, and shaking our heads over Tom) After they were done, they still hung about outside for a while meowing in unison.. before both of them disappeared never to be seen again...

Yet, sometimes, we do hear Tom singing his heart out at night.. before someone puts an end to his solo symphony....

An incident from the colorful life of two friends...... Ronit and Shane... each a unique sample... both one of a kind!!! They bumble along life's pathways.. stepping on toes.. laughing at life... each with plenty of friends.. yet.. lonely...., misunderstood for being different ... till the two meet.. and then all the years of silence seem to find a release ... thoughts and ideas.. gush like water from a burst dam .. inseparable.. they are bonded ... friends for life..

One evening... during one of their absurdly long and legendary conversations.. Ronit finds Shane extremely agitated.. in a fuss.. losing his already many times long lost infamous temper at every little thing.. more so than usual.. .... Reason - Shane wants to download.. in a hurry... a BIG BIG hurry,. but it is a good 40 minutes before he reaches home.. Ronit (face muscles aching trying to stop the laughter) manages to console Shane.. telling him to be a Man .. that he can handle it.. and so on .. and so forth.. till finally Shane reaches.. no.. runs home.. but hey.. what is this?? Ronit is rewarded with a fabulously new set of exotic sounding, fanciful swear words from Shane.. Ronit painfully manages to make some sense of what Shane is softly screaming (he cant scream out loud.. he wants to download remember?) and understands then tragedy that is confronting poor Shane - the door is locked and parents cannot be contacted..... So Near... Yet.. .. Sooo far.... The short path between the main gate to the front door is trampled as if a hundred elephants have been pumping iron by the now desperately desperate Shane, hoping to see his parents arriving.. Oh.. what to do in such a situation? Cant knock at the snooty neighboring bungalow door.. to ask the hoity toity lady.. May I use your washroom please?? Shane is now beyond speech.. rather beyond anything.. Ronit is equally desperate.. he is dying to laugh.. but dare not, for fear that Shane shall surely and slowly murder him for it... Mercifully for Ronit, Shane disconnects the phone.. calling back after about a good 40 minutes.. to tell Ronit that his parents arrived just in time.. just as Shane was about to permanently freeze into an exotically twisted looking garden statue...

Oh the miseries of untimely downloads can only be felt.. they cannot be told!!!!
Picture this..

A busy road.. traffic whizzing by.. a yuppie complete with Blue Tooth headset, Ray Bans, snazzy tie.. et all.. purring along in a huge black car .. fasst..

when suddenly.. the car screeches to a standstill....... time is frozen in a capsule.. nothing moves.. but an innocent brown puppy .. gamboling along ...oblivious to its close brush with violent death.. the mad fellow thinks its all a game and starts to jump and play with the steaming but now immobile tyre.. Suddenly a passerby wakes up... calls the puppy away... the yuppie who has been sitting at the wheel, slowly awakens and soon disappears out of sight.....

So often.. we are like that puppy.. in our own micro world.. oblivious to the dangers that loom over and threaten us.. all the time complaining.. God where are you? Why dont you help??... While God waits patiently, protecting us, saving us and hoping that we awaken to the realisation of our self-destructive ways...
